Quick answer
F8E1/Lo FL: the washer is not detecting the correct incoming water amount; supply, hose and drain checks.
Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so F8E1 / Lo FL may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Whirlpool®
What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
F8E1 (also shown as Lo FL) means the washer is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water.
What the display is telling you
Both F8 E1 and Lo FL (front load) say the washer does not sense the right amount of water coming in. Laundry tower washers, front load washers and top load washers all use the code.
Unresponsive control or locked door?
Press the power button.
The washer runs a drain routine for approximately 8 to 10 minutes; the pump is on the whole time.
Nothing you press will register until it finishes. Wait 10 minutes.
Checklist
Is the water on? Hot and cold valves fully open, both hoses attached.
Are the hoses free of kinks?
Colour match: red hose to the red valve, blue hose to the blue valve.
Inlet screens: switch off the supply, take off the hoses and inspect the screens. Top load guidance adds placing the hose ends in a bucket and cleaning clogged screens with a brush, mild soap and water without removing them.
Anti-flood device fitted? The washer works best connected directly to the supply.
Hose flow: run water through each uninstalled hose at a sink and replace any that restrict the stream.
Drain hose: more than 4.5″ (113 mm) into the drainpipe, using the U-shape form, and loose, not taped in.
Last step: power cycle
Keep the washer without power for 5 minutes. If F8E1 appears again, schedule service.
Service for this washer covers the Miami, New York, Houston, Los Angeles and San Diego metro areas. Call (844) 968-2053 and have F8E1 or Lo FL, the model number and a note of what you tried ready.
