Quick answer
Whirlpool lists F8E6 as water detected on towers and as lid open or no hot water on top load washers.
Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so F8E6 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
F8E6 depends on the model: water detected, open lid or no hot water.
Two machines, two readings
F8E6 does not always mean the same thing, so start by identifying your washer.
Washer part of a laundry tower
Potential cause: water detected.
Try this: disconnect power for 5 minutes, then reconnect.
Code returns: schedule service.
Top load washer
Whirlpool says the code may signal that the lid was left open during the soak cycle, so shutting the lid lets the cycle carry on. The other reading is that no hot water was detected. For that one:
Are the hoses reversed? F8E6 may show when the hot inlet has the cold hose and the cold inlet has the hot hose. Swap them and start another cycle.
Is the water on? Both hot and cold valves must be fully open and both hoses attached.
Reset the control by unplugging the washer for 5 minutes and plugging it in again.
