Quick answer
FC LR refers to the left front hotplate or its wiring, with a one-minute breaker reset from the manual.
Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so FC LR may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Whirlpool®
What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
There may be a problem with the left front hotplate (cooking surface, burner or element), or the associated wiring.
What FC LR refers to
An FC LR message on the display relates to the left front hotplate and the wiring that serves it. Whirlpool lists it for electric/radiant cooktops, and also under its electric and induction cooktop help.
What the manual asks you to do
Switch the cooktop’s circuit breaker off and leave it for a full minute. After switching it on again, keep an eye on the display for another minute. If the code stays gone, confirm the cooktop operates as it should.
Other codes to compare
The right-hand hotplates have their own messages: FC RF for the right front and FC RR for the right rear. A message that mentions the display panel rather than a hotplate, such as FCE1, points at the touchpad instead.
