Quick answer
Whirlpool explains HC on top load washers as hot and cold inlet hoses installed the wrong way round.
Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so HC may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Whirlpool®
What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
HC flags hot and cold hoses connected to the wrong inlets.
Reading HC
HC stands for hot and cold hoses reversed. On a top load Whirlpool washer, it turns up at the end of the wash cycle when the cold water hose is attached to the hot water inlet and the hot water hose to the cold water inlet.
Correction
Shut off the water supply first.
Switch the two hoses over.
Run a further cycle as a check that the connections are correct.
The Installation Instructions cover the hose connections.
