What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
F9E1 points to abnormal or long drainage.
Which washer do you have?
F9E1 is about draining, and the wording varies with the machine.
Laundry tower, washer section: potential cause is a blocked drain pump.
Front load washer: long drain time, meaning the washer is unable to drain correctly.
Laundry tower steps
Clean the drain pump by following the owner’s manual for access.
Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore it.
Schedule service if the code is still there.
Front load washer: what to look at
Whirlpool lists the drain hose installation, the drain pump filter and the door seal.
The hose end must stay within 4.5″ (113 mm) of insertion in the drainpipe or tub, otherwise drained water can siphon back. The hose tops out at 96″ measured from the washer bottom, and the U-shape form from the installation instructions sets the correct length.
Leave the drain opening uncovered by tape. The hose stays loose yet secure so air can break the suction.
Clean the drain pump filter, found behind the bottom dispenser drawer on some models.
Clear the small drain holes inside the door seal (bellow).
