Quick answer

FBE1 appears as a flashing F on bottom-freezer refrigerators. The manual lists a one-minute power reset and service if it returns.

Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so FBE1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

What this code may mean.

A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.

A flashing F on the display that Product Help answers with a power reset.

Why you see FBE1

FBE1 is one of the codes that makes the display flash an F.

Its advice is to reset the refrigerator first. The guidance is written for refrigerators built with a bottom freezer.

The sequence to follow

First, shut off the circuit breaker or unplug it, and leave it for one (1) minute. Next, reconnect power at the breaker or plug the refrigerator in again. After that, be sure the cooling function is running. Finally, watch the refrigerator for one (1) minute and check whether the code comes back.

If the code is still there, the manual says to schedule service.

Other codes in the list

  • Similar reset-only listing: FAEC
  • Often read alongside it: FBE2
  • Also answered by a power reset: FBEB
