Quick answer
E1 on Whirlpool dryers is handled with a breaker reset and a short test run. The help text gives no cause.
Model note: Whirlpool reuses codes across series and model years, so E1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

What this codemay mean.
A plain-language reading of the code — always confirm against your model’s documentation.
Mean
E1 is handled with a breaker reset and test run; no cause is stated.
Handling E1
For commercial-grade residential dryers and other Whirlpool dryers, E1 is listed together with a reset only. Whirlpool’s help text does not say what causes it.
The steps
Power the dryer down by turning off its circuit breaker (or breakers) for 5 minutes. Power it up again by turning the breaker on. Then start a time dry cycle and keep an eye on the dryer for a minute, making sure the error code does not show up again.
Compare
E2 has the identical routine, see E2. Door messages on compact heat pump dryers are explained under dC.
